Using Genetic Information Responsibly
WE EXPECT OUR CLIENTS TO SEEK PROFESSIONAL ADVICE CONCERNING ANY LIFESTYLE ACTIONS THAT MIGHT BE SUGGESTED BY THE INFORMATION WE OFFER.

One Person Genetics believes that:
> Every adult has the right to access information relating to their own health, so that they can take informed decisions
> Prevention is preferable to cure. One Person Genetics will therefore focus on providing information which has been shown to reduce the probability of illness or to reduce the negative impact of illness or associated medical interventions
> People are capable of interpreting fairly complex information when it relates to their own well-being
> People recognize that scientific advance is a continual process. Nonetheless, that information which exists should be made available
> Individuals should benefit from information derived from genome research, much of which has been publicly funded

One Person Genetics Tests
One Person Genetics has a number of strict criteria for including any test:
> The test must provide useful information to the customer - information on which they can realistically act and which will improve their health prospects
> Links between the variation and specific practical beneficial lifestyle choices (e.g. diet) must be established and referenced in multiple independent peer reviewed journal articles in the scientific literature
> One Person Genetics will not provide tests for single gene diseases directly to the public
> One Person Genetics does not provide genetic services for forensic or paternity testing

Data and Sample Ownership
All information and samples provided by any individual to One Person Genetics remains the property of that person. Samples will be destroyed after testing. No information relating to the individual will be supplied to any third party without the explicit written consent of that individual.

In accordance with United States federal policy and state laws, personal genetic information shall not be disclosed to insurers or employers without the prior written consent of the individual.

Data Security
Samples and test results are stored in a physically separate secure system from personal information. Information identifying an individual is held on physically separate systems and only connected with the test results when the final report is printed and sent.
